Bone Broth with Elk (Moose) – A rare protein source, made simple Elk is not commonly found in pet food – and even less so in bone broth. In this broth, “elk” refers to Alces alces – the large, wild herbivore known as moose in North America, and as elk or moose in Northern Europe. Different names, same species. Most of the available elk – whether meat, bones or intestines – is reserved for human consumption. But we’re fortunate to work with trusted partners who believe that our four-legged companions also deserve access to this unique protein source. At Hokuō®, we make bone broth the traditional way – slow-simmered, with patience and respect for the raw materials. No additives, no flavour enhancers, no shortcuts. We’ve simply made it easier to use. The broth is shelf-stable until opened and doesn’t require refrigeration beforehand. At room temperature, it remains liquid – but after a day or two in the fridge, it naturally thickens into a soft gel due to its collagen content.
